In a successful operation, troops of “Operation UDO KA II” have dealt a heavy blow to insurgents in the Southeast. Their clearance operation targeted the hideouts of terrorists in Orsumoghu Forest, located in the Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra.
Lieutenant Colonel Jonah Unuakhalu, the Deputy Director of Army Public Relations for the 82 Division, conveyed this information to journalists in Enugu on Saturday. He confirmed that during the operation, two terrorists were neutralized by the troops.
The focus of the operation was to uncover the suspected hideouts of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and their militant wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN).
Undeterred by the terrorists’ deployment of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) to hinder their progress, the troops pressed on steadfastly.
“The troops were able to dislodge the group and neutralize two of them, while others managed to escape with gunshot wounds,” revealed Lt.-Col. Unuakhalu.
Upon searching the camps, the recovered items included a pair of military boots, one military belt, five mobile phones, a pair of binoculars, leather hand gloves, and a police head warmer. Additionally, one locally-made handheld IED and four locally-made IED launchers (known as Ogbunigwe) were seized.
This successful operation sends a strong message, affirming the commitment of our troops to rooting out terrorists and maintaining peace and security in the region.
