Nigeria’s Defence Minister Urges Retired Military Officers to Share Expertise in Confronting Security Challenges

In a heartfelt address, the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, has expressed the vital need for the expertise and wealth of experience possessed by retired military officers in tackling the prevailing security challenges facing Nigeria.

Matawalle conveyed this message during a prestigious dinner held in honour of General Christopher Musa, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), organized by the esteemed members of the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) 38 Regular Course Welfare Association in Abuja on Saturday.

The Minister emphasized that the extensive knowledge accumulated throughout their military careers remains invaluable as they embrace a new phase of life. He stressed the importance of their professional proficiency and expertise to proffer solutions to the countless issues plaguing the nation.

He further underscored the significance of this transitional period, urging retired military officers to utilize their special time to reflect and generate ideas that would effectively address the country’s challenges without any constraints.

“I urge you to engage in critical brainstorming sessions, pondering over the challenges confronting our nation, with the aim of providing viable solutions,” Matawalle remarked.

He assured them that the Ministry of Defence stands ready to receive them as a group of esteemed thinkers, eager to engage in dialogues concerning defence and security matters within the country.

“Given the extensive training and experience possessed by these remarkable individuals and highly knowledgeable security professionals, we are committed to ensuring that your retirement is pleasant and that your welfare remains a top priority at the Ministry of Defence,” he assured.

The minister highlighted that the responsibility of propelling the nation forward rests on everyone’s collective efforts, acknowledging that Nigeria has been blessed with abundantly talented military officers.
