Renewed Vigour Needed to Safeguard Nigeria’s Sovereign Integrity – PSC Chairman, Arase

The Chairman of the Police Service Commission, Dr Solomon Arase, has called for a united front in the battle against criminals for optimal outcomes. Speaking at the International Symposium on countering organized crimes in Africa held in Abuja, Arase emphasized the importance of inclusiveness and the unwavering support of the people to ensure the success of security agencies in Nigeria.

Recognizing the gravity of the situation, Arase called on all citizens to stand firm against those who pose a threat to “the sovereign integrity of the Nigerian State.” According to him, the indivisibility of Nigeria and the security of its people depend on the collective will to combat crime.

Arase highlighted the imperative for security agencies to re-examine their strategies and swiftly address the mounting insecurity challenges across the nation. He stressed the need to take whatever necessary measures, within the confines of the law, to ensure the safety of citizens:

“Our old fighting force must be revived, our tactics redesigned, and we must be relentless in the pursuit of those who seek to disrupt the peace. We cannot shy away from our duty to provide the needed security for all Nigerians.”

Arase made it clear that terrorism and crime show no mercy, sparing no one regardless of social status or educational background. As such, it falls on this generation to instill hope in the hopeless, empower the weak, and protect the defenseless.

In his powerful address, Arase warned of the dire consequences should organized crime continue to thrive, declaring, “Mankind must put an end to organized crime, or organized crime will put an end to mankind.” He urged the nation never to let its guard down and to remain resolute in the face of this threat.

While advocating for enhanced cooperation and intelligence-sharing among security agencies, Arase also proposed a combination of kinetic and non-kinetic approaches as part of a comprehensive strategy for effective security management. He argued that this multifaceted approach would yield the desired results in the fight against organized crime.

Assuring his commitment to the cause, Arase pledged that the Police Service Commission would collaborate with other agencies in the relentless battle against organized crime in Nigeria.

As Nigeria confronts the challenges posed by criminals, it is imperative that citizens and security forces alike work hand in hand, demonstrating unwavering resolve and unified action. Only through a collective effort can Nigeria safeguard its sovereign integrity and pave the way for peace, stability, and progress.
