House of Representatives Committee Briefs Governor Otti on Security Findings in Abia

The House of Representatives Ad-hoc Committee on Security in Umunneochi, Abia State, recently met with Governor Alex Otti to discuss their findings on the state of security in the region. The committee commended Governor Otti for his proactive measures in restoring law and order in Abia.

One of the significant security measures implemented by Governor Otti was the demolition of criminals’ hideouts in the Lokpanta cattle market area of Umunneochi. The committee acknowledged the importance of such actions in combating crime and protecting the residents of the state.

During their visit, members of the committee shared their experiences from a town hall meeting held in the course of their assignment. They had the opportunity to interact with stakeholders in the market, who raised concerns about the security situation. Notably, the stakeholders requested the fencing of the cattle market to prevent criminal activities.

Responding to the committee’s commendations, Governor Otti expressed gratitude for their efforts and emphasized that criminality knows no tribe or religion. He made it clear that his administration does not distinguish based on state of origin, as every resident of Abia is considered an indigene. The governor asserted that protecting all residents of the state is crucial for its overall development and progress.

Furthermore, Governor Otti reaffirmed his commitment to support vulnerable individuals within the Northern community, particularly those who may not have sufficient means to rent houses outside the market. However, he made it clear that establishing separate communities based on specific groups is not part of his government’s plan. The governor believes that encouraging residents to live together fosters community cohesion and a better understanding of one another.

The Abia State government has devised a strategic approach to permanently restore security and order in Umunneochi. One of the key initiatives is the conversion of the Lokpanta cattle market into a daily and general-purpose market. This transformation will allow people to purchase a wide range of items, including electronics, textile materials, and food items.

Governor Otti’s commitment to enhancing security and promoting development in Abia demonstrates his administration’s prioritization of the welfare and safety of all residents. Through collaborative efforts with relevant stakeholders, the government is working towards creating a secure environment that will facilitate growth and prosperity in the state.
