In a dramatic turn of events, the Benue State Police Command has successfully rescued three abducted children from the clutches of their captors.
The heart-wrenching incident took place at St. Peters Church Wurukum, Makurdi, Benue State, in September, where six-year-old Philomena Kpaakpa and her two-year-old brother, Benedict Kpaakpa, were kidnapped.
Following an extensive investigation and coordination, the Benue Police Command Public Relations Officer, SP Catherine Anene, confirmed the release of the children.
According to an official statement by the police spokesperson, “Immediate investigations were launched, and a nationwide alert was issued.”
On the 20th of October, 2023, the Benue State Police Command received crucial information from their counterparts in Rivers State, who had rescued three children during an operation in the Rumu-Okoro area. Remarkably, these children bore a striking resemblance to the ones reported missing by the Benue Command earlier.
Without wasting any time, a team of detectives was dispatched from Benue State to Rivers State to ascertain the identities of the children and carry out other necessary actions.
Thankfully, Philomena and Benedict were positively identified and joyfully reunited with their family. However, a third child named Godsgift Julius, whose parents are yet to be identified, remains separated from his family.
The investigation has led to the apprehension of a medical doctor in Rivers State. While the doctor is being thoroughly scrutinized, efforts are also underway to track down the suspected accomplices operating in Benue State.
The Benue State Police Command has seized this opportunity to caution parents, guardians, teachers, and all those responsible for the care and welfare of children to be extra vigilant, ensuring the safety and security of their little ones. Vigilance and awareness are essential in preventing incidents of child trafficking.
