Pro-Democracy Group and Clerics Unite to Counter Alleged Plans of Chaos in Plateau State

A commendation has been given to the Peace and Good Governance Advocates (PEGGA), a pro-democracy group, for their support of Christian and Muslim clerics in Plateau State. These spiritual leaders have taken a courageous stand against alleged plots to cause mayhem in the state following the recent rulings from the Tribunal and Appeal Court.

The reaction from PEGGA comes in response to a statement made by the State Christian and Muslim Inter-Faith group, admonishing what they refer to as “desperate politicians” who are attempting to incite a new crisis in the state.

Furthermore, the group has urged the National Judicial Council and other relevant stakeholders to closely monitor the proceedings of election petition tribunals and appeal courts, as there have been concerns regarding contradictory judgments.

The inter-faith group, led by Evangelist Joshua Ringsum and Imam Othman Abdullahi, made these revelations known in Jos, the capital of Plateau State.

Raising questions about the inconsistent judgments on the plateau, the Christian and Muslim clerics have called on the National Judicial Council (NJC) to pay special attention to the panels handling Plateau petitions. This plea is to prevent unnecessary tension in the state arising from the rulings.

In solidarity with the clerics, PEGGA, through its national coordinator, Mani Imman, issued a statement stating, “We are pleased to see faith leaders, who are otherwise competitors, coming together to speak out against the threats to peace on the plateau, caused by the contradictory judgments from the tribunals and appeal courts.”

Imman added, “We commend the clerics for not aligning themselves as advocates for political parties and for standing against the misconduct that we witness from the judiciary.”

He concluded, “We call on the clerics to remain resolute, using their positions as faith leaders to fervently pray and supplicate against the threats to peace on the plateau.”

“As the clerics highlighted in their joint press conference on Saturday, using the judiciary to thwart the will of the people will undo the progress achieved by the Federal and Plateau State Governments in maintaining peace.”

“On this note, we reiterate our plea to the National Judicial Council (NJC) to rein in judicial officers who are jeopardizing the will of the people for personal gain,” he emphasized.
