Tragic Murder of FUT Lecturer Sends Shockwaves Through Niger

The Niger State Police command has tragically confirmed the killing of Dr Funmilola Adefolalu, a highly esteemed lecturer at the Federal University of Technology (FUT) Minna. The news of her untimely demise has plunged the academic community and the entire state into deep sorrow and shock.

In a statement released on Monday in Minna by DSP Wasiu Abiodun, the command’s spokesperson, the horrific incident took place in Dr Adefolalu’s residence in the Gbaiko area of Minna on Sunday.

“On October 29, at approximately 10:00 am, some concerned friends of Dr Funmilola Adefolalu visited her residence in Gbaiko Area of Minna, as they were unable to reach her over the phone,” said Mr Abiodun.

Tragically, upon arrival at her home, the visitors were met with a heart-wrenching sight. Dr Adefolalu was found lying in a pool of her own blood, with visible marks of injury on her body.

At the crime scene, investigators discovered two knives smeared with blood, strongly indicating that they were the weapons used by the unknown assailants to stab the victim.

The lifeless body of Dr Funmilola Adefolalu was immediately taken to the Ibrahim Babangida Specialist Hospital in Minna, where her death was tragically confirmed.

The police command has wasted no time in launching a thorough investigation into this heinous crime, aiming to bring the perpetrators to justice and provide answers to the grieving family, friends, and colleagues of the deceased.

This shocking incident serves as a painful reminder of the need for enhanced security measures to protect the lives and property of Nigerians. It underscores the urgent importance of ensuring the safety of our homes and communities, as well as the fundamental role that law enforcement agencies play in maintaining peace and order.

We beseech the authorities to intensify efforts in apprehending the culprits and to establish proactive measures that will prevent such senseless acts of violence from recurring in our society.

As the investigation progresses, we must come together as a community, offering support and solidarity to Dr Adefolalu’s family, friends, and colleagues during this devastating time. Let us remember her fondly for her contributions to academia and her unwavering dedication to the development of our nation.
