The Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, has vehemently denied any wrongdoing that would warrant his impeachment by the State House of Assembly.
Tensions have been mounting in the state as reports circulate of a purported plot to remove Governor Fubara from office initiated by the lawmakers.
The removal of House Majority Leader, Edison Ehie, who is believed to be loyal to the governor, is seen as a strategic move to advance the impeachment plot.
However, during an address to his supporters who gathered to protest outside the Assembly Complex, the governor firmly asserted that he has not engaged in any activities warranting impeachment proceedings by the Assembly.
Furthermore, Governor Fubara assured the people of Rivers State that they will continue to experience the positive impacts of democracy and promised to share more details on the matter in due course.
“Let them come forward and disclose to the people of Rivers State the alleged offenses I have committed that justify any impeachment proceedings,” declared Governor Fubara.
“I want to assure the good people of Rivers that I will remain committed to delivering the dividends of democracy. At the appropriate time, I will address the press,” he added.
According to reports, Governor Fubara’s fallout with his predecessor, Nyesome Woke, who currently serves as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, is believed to have triggered the escalating tensions.
