Kaduna State Government Launches Yellow Fever Vaccination Campaign

The Kaduna State Government has taken a proactive step towards safeguarding the health of its citizens by commencing a mass vaccination campaign against Yellow Fever. This campaign, aimed at preventing the spread of the disease, will be conducted from October 30 to November 10, covering all 23 local government areas of the state.

Hamza Ikara-Ibrahim, the Director of Public Health at the Kaduna State Primary HealthCare Development Agency, shared this information with the News Agency of Nigeria on Monday in Kaduna. He emphasized that the vaccination will be administered not only through health facilities but also through temporary fixed posts within communities, such as places of worship, motor parks, markets, and schools.

Ikara-Ibrahim highlighted the importance of this preventive measure, stating, “Yellow fever is a silent killer disease. People often neglect routine check-ups, which is why we are providing the vaccine as a preventive measure.” The target age group for the Yellow Fever vaccination is individuals ranging from nine months to 44 years.

With an ambitious goal of achieving an 85 percent success rate in vaccination coverage, the Kaduna State Government aims to administer the vaccine to over 10 million people. To achieve this, Ikara-Ibrahim urged residents to embrace the vaccine, assuring them of its safety and emphasizing that it is free of charge. He cautioned against misleading information and called on traditional and religious leaders to play an active role in sensitizing their communities about the importance and safety of the vaccine.

The Kaduna State Government’s commitment to the health and well-being of its citizens is evident through this comprehensive vaccination campaign. By taking proactive measures to prevent the spread of Yellow Fever, the state is not only protecting its population but also setting an example for other regions to follow. Let us all join hands in supporting this initiative and ensuring a healthier future for Kaduna State.
