The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has given its approval for the allocation of N5.5 billion towards the construction of access roads for communities adjacent to the Abuja light rail project.
The Minister in charge of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, made the announcement during a press briefing after this week’s FEC meeting, chaired by President Bola Tinubu.
“Today, the council approved the award of a contract for the construction of access roads for the Abuja light rail. We are aware that Mr. President has given a directive that very soon he will want to ride on the right rail.”
“Now, that would not be possible if there were no access roads for commuters in the communities around. Last week, the council approved lot 3, but this had to do with lot 4.”
“Lot 4 has to do with communities around the airport. If we don’t create an access road, it will be difficult. And so approved by Messers CCECC at the cost of N5.5 billion,” he said.
The approval of funds for the construction of access roads comes as a significant development for the Abuja light rail project. The construction of these roads is crucial in ensuring seamless connectivity for residents in the surrounding communities, facilitating easy access to the rail system.
The recently approved lot 4, specifically targeting the communities around the airport, will play a vital role in improving transportation infrastructure in the area. Without proper access roads, the smooth operation of the light rail project would be compromised, making it challenging for commuters to benefit from this ambitious undertaking.
The contract for the construction of the access roads has been awarded to Messers CCECC at a cost of N5.5 billion. This investment will not only enhance the convenience and efficiency of the Abuja light rail project but also foster economic growth and development in the region.
The FEC’s decision to allocate funds for the construction of these access roads further emphasizes the government’s commitment to improving transportation infrastructure in the country. The Abuja light rail project is poised to transform commuting in the nation’s capital and serve as a model for future transportation initiatives across Nigeria.
