The former President of Defence and Police Officers Wives Association (DEPOWA), Mrs. Vickie Irabor, emphasizes that challenges and trials present opportunities for growth and that service to humanity is the catalyst for positive change. Mrs. Irabor made these remarks during her farewell event in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.
According to Mrs. Irabor, their tenure was characterized by remarkable achievements driven by a deep passion to provide assistance to the widows and orphans of the nation’s fallen heroes, especially in light of prevailing insecurity and vulnerabilities in society.
Mrs. Irabor proudly shared that the orphans were trained at the skills acquisition center, a testament to their commitment to empowering the less privileged. Additional accomplishments during her tenure include reaching out to the widows of fallen heroes and the establishment of the Armed Forces Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) Center, among others.
Mrs. Irabor attributed the success of the PTSD Center project to the full sponsorship provided by the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) and Service Chiefs. She expressed her hope that Mrs. Oghogho Musa, the current DEPOWA President, would receive divine grace to complete the project, enabling the commissioning and utilization of the facility for the mental well-being of the military community.
She further remarked, “In the same vein, this passion led me to authoring the book, ‘The Journey of a Military Wife,’ a must-read for every military spouse.”
As she passed the baton, Mrs. Irabor expressed her confidence in Mrs. Musa’s leadership, believing that she would lead DEPOWA to even greater heights.
The current DEPOWA President, Mrs. Oghogho Musa, acknowledged the undeniable legacies, achievements, and transformational leadership of Mrs. Vickie Irabor in various areas, such as human capacity building, women and youth empowerment, education, health, and medical outreach.
Mrs. Musa pledged to build upon the successes of her predecessors and sought Mrs. Irabor’s continued support in fulfilling DEPOWA’s mandate and aligning with the vision of the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, through the Renewed Hope Initiative.
The ceremony was graced by past and present DEPOWA Presidents, EXCOs, and members of DEPOWA, all united in their commitment to making a difference in the lives of others.
