Resignation of Ogba, Makwe, and Others will not Weaken PDP in Ebonyi – Party Leaders Affirm

Two prominent chieftains of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Ebonyi State, Boniface Igwe and Emmanuel Uka, have unequivocally stated that the recent resignation of six former local government party chairmen and other prominent leaders will not weaken the opposition party.

It is noteworthy to recall that Senator Obinna Ogba, who represented Ebonyi Central Zone in the Red Chamber for eight years, alongside Livinus Makwe, a former House of Representatives member representing Ohaozara, Onicha, and Ivo federal constituency, had tendered their resignation as members of the party.

Responding to this development, Igwe and Uka, both fervent supporters of the party’s gubernatorial candidate in the last general election, Ifeanyi Chukwuma Odii, affirmed that the resignations would not diminish the party’s strength in Ebonyi State.

Issuing a joint statement on Monday, Igwe and Uka also expressed their disappointment with Ogba, Makwe, and the six former local government party chairmen for defecting to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and abandoning their allegiance to the PDP.

“These individuals were allegedly working against the interests of the party during the 2023 election, so their resignations did not come as a surprise to us,” Igwe and Uka emphasized.

“We are resolutely committed to employing legal means to reclaim the mandate that was freely entrusted to the party by the Ebonyi electorate, who turned out in massive numbers to vote for our candidate, AnyiChuks, as their governor,” they added.

“Hence, these resignations and the intended defection to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) are mere distractions. As a party, we remain fully focused on reclaiming our mandate, and we owe this unwavering commitment to our people,” they concluded.
