NRC Introduces E-ticketing for Lagos-Ibadan and Itakpe-Warri Train Services

The Minister of Transportation, Said Alkali, has officially inaugurated the e-ticketing services for the Lagos-Ibadan and Itakpe-Warri train services. This new development is aimed at improving efficiency, reducing corruption, and enhancing the overall passenger experience.

During the flag-off ceremony held in Abuja on Monday, Minister Alkali emphasized that the e-ticketing system will not only streamline ticket sales but also ensure that revenue generated from ticket sales goes directly to the government. This move is in line with the administration’s commitment to transparency and accountability.

“One of the major advantages of the e-ticketing platform is the significant reduction in potential corruption and revenue leakage. It will also enhance the security of our passengers and eliminate any form of racketeering,” the minister explained. “Our goal is to have zero tolerance for corruption and to ensure that all Nigerians benefit from these improvements.”

Dr. Magdalene Ajani, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, commended the Federal Government for its commitment to making the e-ticketing platform a reality. She emphasized that this technological advancement will not only curb racketeering but also have a positive impact on the economy.

Fidet Okhiria, the Managing Director of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), expressed his optimism about the e-ticketing system. He believes it will enhance the integrity of operations within the sector and lead to increased revenue generation for the Federal Government.

The Federal Government has granted the concession for the Warri-Itakpe and Lagos-Ibadan routes to “Ticketing Solutions Limited” and “Global Software and Digital Solution” respectively. These private firms have committed to effectively and efficiently managing the e-ticketing system for a period of 10 years.

With the introduction of e-ticketing, the National Railway Corporation has taken a significant step towards modernizing and improving the Nigerian rail system. This move not only aligns with global best practices but also demonstrates the government’s commitment to providing a seamless and efficient transportation experience for its citizens.
