The political tension between the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and the Governor of Rivers State, Sim Fubara, may soon come to an end with the intervention of former Lagos State governor, Bola Tinubu. This was revealed by Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State on Tuesday.
Governor Mohammed disclosed that Tinubu, in his role as the president of the National Police Council, had presided over a meeting where the issue was discussed. According to Mohammed, Tinubu’s involvement has played a significant role in dousing the tension in Rivers State.
Speaking to State House Correspondents, Governor Mohammed expressed optimism that peace would be restored through the ongoing discussions between Tinubu, Wike, and Fubara. He also commended Tinubu’s unbiased approach, stating that the former governor has proven himself to be a leader for both the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The meeting between Fubara and Wike took place at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Tuesday morning. The rift between the two politicians emerged less than six months after Fubara assumed office as governor. Wike’s loyalists in the Rivers House of Assembly attempted to impeach Fubara, but the governor stood his ground, refusing to be swayed by the pressure.
The involvement of Bola Tinubu brings hope for a resolution to the conflict, as his stature and influence in Nigerian politics make him a valuable mediator in such situations.
The people of Nigeria, particularly those residing in Rivers State, anxiously await the outcome of these discussions, eager for a peaceful resolution that will allow them to focus on the development and progress of their state.
