The National Police Service Council has officially confirmed Kayode Egbetokun as the Substantive Inspector General of Police, solidifying his position as the head of the Nigeria Police Force. This announcement came after a Council Meeting where members endorsed President Tinubu’s proposal.

During the Council Meeting, the Minister of Police Affairs, Ibrahim Geidam, shared the news of Egbetokun’s confirmation with State House Correspondents. Geidam praised Egbetokun’s outstanding performance in his role as the Acting Inspector General of Police for the past three months, which led to his confirmation.

Egbetokun’s remarkable track record and extensive experience in the police force cemented his qualifications for the role. His commitment to implementing police and security developmental programs greatly impressed the Council members, further affirming Egbetokun’s suitability as the Substantive IGP.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, on June 19, 2023, appointed Egbetokun as the Inspector General of Police, thus replacing Usman Baba, who had been appointed by former President Muhammadu Buhari on April 6, 2021.

Born on September 4, 1964, in the Egbado South Local Government Area of Ogun State, Southwest Nigeria, Egbetokun joined the Nigeria Police Force as a Cadet ASP (Course 16) on March 3, 1990. As per police rules, he will celebrate 35 years in service by September 2024.

This appointment marks a significant milestone in Egbetokun’s distinguished career and showcases the Police Council’s recognition of his exceptional leadership capabilities. As the Substantive IGP, Egbetokun will continue to steer the Nigeria Police Force towards progress and ensure the safety and security of all Nigerians.
