We’ll partner NiDCOM to promote Nigeria – Minister of Interior Tunji-Ojo

The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has pledged his unwavering support to the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) in their mission to project a positive image of Nigeria beyond its borders. This declaration was made during a courtesy visit from the Chairman and CEO of the commission, Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, in Abuja on Tuesday.

Tunji-Ojo emphasized the collective responsibility of keeping NiDCOM afloat and assured the commission of the ministry’s commitment to offer assistance. Recognizing the impact of the commission’s efforts on Nigerians both at home and abroad, he stated, “Whatever you do for our people in the diaspora has a ripple effect on our people at home.”

The minister, speaking on the importance of wealth creation by the government, acknowledged that NiDCOM serves as a representation of Nigeria’s positive image on the global stage. Consequently, he stressed that the commission deserves more support than it currently receives. “Most families have their breadwinners abroad. With NiDCOM providing them welfare support, the commission is helping us ensure national integrity, security, and peace,” he affirmed.

Highlighting the potential for collaborations with NiDCOM, Tunji-Ojo drew inspiration from India’s success in diversifying its economy beyond oil. He expressed his belief in exploring a knowledge-based economy as a means to transform Nigeria’s fortunes. “Like India, we must look beyond oil and see how a knowledge-based economy can turn things around for the country,” he remarked.

In response to the ministry’s offer of support, Dabiri-Erewa expressed gratitude for the kind gesture, affirming that it would encourage the commission to achieve even greater results in the new regime.
