The Anambra State government has taken a significant step towards modernizing land administration practices in the state. The implementation of the Geographic Information System (GIS) process is poised to revolutionize land management activities and fulfill Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s vision of creating a livable and prosperous homeland for the residents of Anambra.
The state’s Commissioner for Lands, Physical Planning & Rural Development, Prof. Ofornze Amuchanze, announced that the GIS system would be fully digitized by the end of this year. This move is expected to bring about increased efficiency and effectiveness in land administration. Notably, one of the key benefits of the digitized system would be the expediting of the Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) issuance process, which will now be completed within a remarkable 72 hours.
Commissioner Amuchanze expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “We have already begun the implementation of the GIS, and it will greatly enhance online land transactions. Our goal is to conclude the digitization process by the end of 2024, positioning Anambra as a progressive state in the Southeast region.”
To ensure the successful adoption and utilization of this new system, a two-day “Performance Management And Appraisal System workshop” was organized for the staff of the Ministry of Lands. This workshop, which saw the participation of 120 ministry staff members, is the first in a series of training sessions that will continue in the future.
The Commissioner expressed his gratitude to the organizations that facilitated the workshop. He extended his appreciation to Mr. Arnold Ekweoba, the CEO of Arnold Ekweoba and Associates Limited, for providing the venue, and recognized the contributions of Ubosi Eleh & Co and McTimothy Associates Consulting LLC, the facilitators of the workshop.
Arnold Ekweoba and Associates also commended the Commissioner and the entire management and staff of the Ministry of Lands, recognizing their strategic and progressive efforts in bringing the Governor’s vision to fruition. The choice of their headquarters in Awka as the venue for the workshop was a testament to the ideal environment it offered for such an important event.
The participants of the workshop expressed their appreciation to the state government for organizing the event. They acknowledged that the workshop has not only added to their existing knowledge and experience but has also equipped them with valuable insights to enhance their roles in the land administration sector.
The two-day “Performance Management and Appraisal System Workshop” took place at the Seminar/Workshop Hall in the headquarters of Arnold Ekweoba and Associates, situated at Millennium City Layout in Awka, Anambra State.
With the digitization of land administration processes through the GIS system, Anambra State is making significant strides towards creating a more efficient and transparent land management system. By embracing technology and streamlining administrative processes, the state government is paving the way for a prosperous and progressive future.
