Nigeria’s President Advocates for Unity and Ensures Inclusivity

Nigeria’s President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has reiterated the importance of unity among all Nigerians, assuring the public that he represents the interests of every citizen, regardless of their religious, ethnic, political, or any other affiliations.

President Tinubu made this call during the opening ceremony of the 2023 Cabinet Retreat, held under the theme “Delivering on the Renewed Hope Agenda.” The retreat, attended by Ministers, Presidential Aides, Permanent Secretaries, and other top government officials, aims to foster collaboration towards a stronger and more prosperous Nigeria.

In his address to the participants, President Tinubu stressed that the responsibility of rebuilding Nigeria lies with all citizens. He urged the government executives to work hand in hand with him to restore the nation’s foundation and instill hope in the disillusioned.

President Tinubu stated, “We have brought together the best brains and hands to steer the future of Nigeria. It is our collective duty to build and renew our country. With determination, we can overcome challenges, give hope to our people, and steer Nigeria towards a brighter future.”

The President assured the top government functionaries of his unwavering support in fulfilling their responsibilities. He emphasized the need for collaboration and determination in achieving the eight-point agenda of his administration.

“A great Nigeria is within reach, and together, we can guide the nation towards this vision,” reaffirmed President Tinubu. He further stated, “We may be geographically divided into different rooms, but we are one family, and it is our duty to strengthen our bond and provide direction for our great nation.”

President Tinubu called on the Nigerian Civil Service to actively contribute to the success of the Renewed Hope Agenda, urging them to view political appointees as partners rather than opportunists. He emphasized the importance of navigating through challenges and committed the government to prioritize results that benefit all Nigerians.

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, highlighted that the retreat would enhance participants’ understanding of best practices in government administration. It would also update them on matters such as procurement, budgeting, anti-corruption efforts, and the roles of Ministers and Permanent Secretaries in managing Ministries.

The Goodwill Message from the British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Dr Richard Montgomery, acknowledged President Tinubu’s administration’s economic reforms. The UK reaffirmed its partnership with Nigeria and expressed support for the President’s cabinet members and the Nigerian people.

Shubham Chaudhuri, the World Bank Country Representative in Nigeria, applauded President Tinubu’s courage in addressing Nigeria’s challenges over the past few years. He emphasized the need to rebuild the country and offered the full support of the World Bank in implementing further reforms and policies.

The three-day retreat will conclude on Friday, November 3rd, 2023, with the aim of strengthening collaboration and setting the stage for positive change in Nigeria’s governance.
