FCTA Harnesses Technology for Efficient Traffic Management and Revenue Collection

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has taken a significant step in tackling revenue leakages in the Federal Capital City, Abuja, by introducing e-booking and e-ticketing systems for vehicles. This innovative approach aims to promote transparency, accountability, and effectiveness in the FCT’s traffic management system.

During a recent training session held in Abuja, Dr Abdulateef Bello, the Director of the Directorate of Road Traffic Services (DRTS), FCTA, emphasized the importance of the new system in curbing revenue leakages and enhancing the overall traffic management experience in the city.

The implementation of the e-ticketing system will commence in the city center, where heavy traffic congestion is a prevalent issue. This initial phase will serve as a testing ground before gradually extending its reach to the suburbs in the near future.

One key feature of the e-ticketing system is its provision for offenders to appeal or protest against unsatisfactory bookings, ensuring a fair and just process. This evolution in the traffic management system empowers DRTS officers to provide seamless and efficient services to the public.

By embracing cutting-edge technology, the FCTA demonstrates its commitment to leveraging advancements for the benefit of the community. The transition from traditional paper-based systems to the new paperless e-ticketing system will eliminate the challenges associated with manual processes, while effectively managing fines and ticketing systems, thus reducing revenue leakages.

Furthermore, the adoption of e-platforms enables the directorate to maintain comprehensive records of all transactions, ensuring that every penny owed to the government is accounted for. This comprehensive system offers seamless payment options for offenders and enhances their overall experience when interacting with traffic officials.

The benefits of this digital transformation extend beyond revenue collection. The system provides easy access to penalty records, comprehensive audit trails, and other data analytics, enabling informed decision-making and fostering accountability.

The training on the implementation and use of the e-booking and e-billing systems was attended by operational staff from the 22 commands of the directorate, reflecting the FCTA’s commitment to equipping its workforce with the necessary skills to efficiently manage traffic and revenue collection.

The introduction of e-booking and ticketing systems heralds a new era of efficient and transparent traffic management in the Federal Capital City. By harnessing technology, the FCTA paves the way for enhanced service delivery and increased revenue generation, ultimately benefiting all residents and stakeholders.
