NNPP wins Kumbotso House of Reps in Court of Appeal

The Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal has nullified the judgement of the National and State House of Assembly Tribunal regarding the Kano House of Representatives election of Kumbotso Federal Constituency.

The initial ruling declared Mannir Babba Danagudi of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the election while removing Idris Kawu of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) as the elected representative for Kumbotso Constituency in the Federal House of Representatives.

The three-judge panel led by Justice Tunji Oyebamuji delivered a verdict, asserting that the lower court had committed a legal error by prioritising the judgement on Idris Kawu’s certificate, despite his failure to present it to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The Court of Appeal also ruled that the lower court had erred by relying on subpoenaed witnesses to make its judgement.

Additionally, the court upheld that Mannir Babba Danagudi had failed to provide reliable and credible witnesses to justify the annulment of Idris Dankawu’s victory in the Kumbotso Federal Constituency election.
