World Bank Commits to Assisting Nigeria in Poverty Alleviation Efforts

The World Bank has pledged its unwavering support to Nigeria in its mission to eradicate poverty and empower its citizens. This announcement was made by the Country Director of the World Bank in Nigeria, Mr Shubam Chaudhuri, during a three-day retreat for Ministers and members of the Nigerian cabinet.

In his message, Mr Chaudhuri expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to address the cabinet retreat and acknowledged the collaboration between Nigeria and the World Bank in their shared goal of uplifting millions of Nigerians out of poverty. He emphasized the bank’s commitment to continue providing assistance and support throughout this crucial and challenging undertaking.

Highlighting the World Bank’s track record in supporting Nigeria, Mr Chaudhuri revealed that the bank has provided a staggering $11 billion in financing over the past three years. He clarified that this financing is directed towards both the federal and sub national levels of the government, with a focus on supporting Nigeria’s programs and initiatives. He also emphasized that despite the name, the World Bank is more than just a bank and urged Nigeria to view them as a development organization dedicated to offering comprehensive solutions.

During his address, Mr Chaudhuri encouraged Nigeria to maintain its trust in the World Bank and its ability to help tackle some of the challenges the nation faces. He stressed that beyond financing, the bank brings valuable ideas and experiences to the table and is committed to working closely with Nigeria to implement its priorities and focus areas. He underlined that true solutions lie in the combination of vision, ideas, and financial resources.

Expressing his delight and privilege in serving in Nigeria, Mr Chaudhuri commended the country’s leadership for charting a new course towards realizing its true potential.

The World Bank’s pledge to provide ongoing support to Nigeria in its fight against poverty is indeed a significant commitment. With their financial resources, expertise, and dedication, Nigeria can look forward to a brighter and more prosperous future for all its citizens.
