In a recent survey conducted by Infotrak, Okiyah Omtatah has been ranked as the best performing Senator in Kenya with an impressive 59 percent rating. This study, which took place between July and September 2023, sampled the opinions of 58,000 Kenyans to ascertain the performance of senators and representatives across the country.
Following closely behind Omtatah are Kamau Murang’o of Kirinyaga and Aaron Cheruiyot of Kericho, both tying at an impressive 56 percent. Other notable performers include Dan Maanzo of Makueni with 52 percent, John Methu of Nyandarua and Joel Nyutu of Murang’a, both tying at 51 percent.
However, it is worth noting that the research firm did not include ratings for Nominated senators, Women representatives, and Members of the County Assembly (MCAs). The survey focused on the performance of County governors, senators, and MCAs, and found that only County governors surpassed the average of 50 percent, with senators and Women representatives falling below average.
The survey also highlighted the performance of female senators, with Machakos Senator Anges Kavindu and Fatuma Dullo from Isiolo County ranking among the top 25 best performing senators, scoring 47 percent and 46 percent respectively.
Okiya Omtatah, who represents Busia County, also stood out as the most improved senator, leading the top 10 in this category. He was followed by John Methu of Nyandarua and Kamau Murang’o of Kirinyaga, showcasing their remarkable progress.
Turning our attention to Women representatives, first-time Turkana County representative Cecilia Ngitit and Jane Njeri of Kirinyaga both tied at 50 percent, earning them the title of best performing Women representatives. Homabay Women representative Bensuda Joyce Atieno closely followed with 49 percent.
The survey also identified the top 10 most improved Women representatives, representing counties such as Turkana, Trans Nzoia, Embu, Kericho, Mombasa, Kiambu, Elgeyo-Marakwet, Kisii, Uasin Gishu, and Mandera.
In terms of Members of the County Assembly, Nyeri County emerged as the top performer, with an average score of 57 percent. Elgeyo-Marakwet, Nyandarua, Machakos, Homabay, and Murang’a counties tied at 55 percent, closely following Nyeri. The survey recognized the top 10 most improved MCAs from various counties, including Homabay, Murang’a, Nyandarua, Narok, Kiambu, Nyeri, Trans Nzoia, Taita Taveta, Mandera, Kitui, Bungoma, Baringo, and Kirinyaga.
