The Adamawa State government has stepped in to provide much-needed relief for victims of windstorms and flood disasters in the Demsa local government area. Over N10 million worth of relief items have been distributed to alleviate the suffering caused by these natural calamities.
The Deputy Governor of the state, Professor Kaletapwa Farauta, emphasized that the aim of this effort is to ease the hardships faced by those affected by the floods in Demsa. The Demsa Local Government Area is among the 13 areas impacted by windstorms and flooding as a result of water release from the Lagdo Dam in Cameroon.
A total of 214 communities across these 13 local government areas in Adamawa State have been severely affected and are in desperate need of relief materials.
This donation of relief items worth over N10 million specifically targets the victims in the Demsa local government area. It is part of the commitment made by Governor Amadu Fintiri to provide assistance and alleviate the difficulties faced by the people affected by these natural disasters.
The relief items that have been distributed include food items and building materials, among others, catering to the immediate needs of those affected.
Reiterating the government’s empathy for the people, the Deputy Governor stated that this gesture is a demonstration of love and compassion from the State Governor.
Other government officials present during the distribution of the relief materials urged the recipients to make judicious use of the items and expressed the government’s expectation for them to reciprocate these efforts.
Prior to the distribution, the government delegation paid a visit to the palace of the traditional ruler, Hamma Bata, Homun Teneke, to pay homage. The purpose of the visit was communicated to the royal father, emphasizing the government’s commitment to stand by him and his subjects during these trying times.
The traditional ruler, in turn, praised the leadership qualities of Governor Fintiri and expressed his optimism that the relief items would reach those they are intended for.
