The Sarki Sasa, located in the Akinyele Local Government Area of Oyo State, Alhaji Haruna Maiyasin, has been suspended following allegations of insubordination and disrespect towards the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Olalekan Balogun.
During a Hausawa meeting held in Sabo, Ibadan North LGA, the Hausa community in the state decided to suspend Maiyasin. The meeting was chaired by Alhaji Ali Zungeru, the Seriki Hausawa of Ibadanland.
One of the grievances against Maiyasin is his unauthorized conferment of chieftaincy titles without consulting the Sarki Hausawa of Ibadanland.
Zungeru expressed concern that Maiyasin’s continued leadership as the District Head could potentially spark a crisis in the area. Therefore, the suspension order will remain in effect until the Arewa Community Council in Ibadan reaches a final decision.
Speaking on the matter, Zungeru said, “Maiyasin was appointed as a District Head during the reign of my elder brother, Shuaibu Dikko III, in 1983. This appointment was made to ensure peace, order, and justice within the Hausa community in the Sasa area of Ibadan. However, due to insubordination, disrespect towards the Olubadan, and the unauthorized conferment of Chieftaincy titles, we, the Sarkin Hausawa of Ibadanland and members of the Arewa traditional institutions, have decided to suspend Maiyasin.”
Zungeru emphasized the importance of preventing any form of communal clashes, citing previous incidents in Sabo-Sagamu, Sabo-Ile-Ife, and most recently, in the Sasa community of Akinyele Local Government. The suspension of Maiyasin aims to maintain harmony and uphold the sanctity of the Olubadan stool.
“The suspension order will remain in effect until a decision is reached by the entire Arewa Community Council in Ibadan,” Zungeru added.
