President Tinubu’s Administrative Policies Stipulate the Presidential Yacht is Actually a Naval Boat

Mr. Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, has provided further clarification on the contentious provision for a “Presidential Yacht” in the Supplementary Appropriation budget presented to the National Assembly.

In a statement titled “THE FACTS ON THE NAVAL BOAT IN 2023 SUPPLEMENTARY BUDGET”, Mr. Onanuga emphasized the need to address misconceptions and misunderstandings surrounding this issue.

The statement reads as follows:

Following the public’s reaction to the inclusion of a provision termed “Presidential Yacht” in the 2023 Supplementary Appropriation budget presented to the National Assembly, it is of utmost importance to provide some clarifications.

First and foremost, it is essential to highlight that President Bola Tinubu’s administration respects the opinions of Nigerians on all matters that concern the public. Therefore, it is crucial to dispel any misconceptions and misunderstandings regarding this matter.

  1. The item listed as the “Presidential Yacht” in the budget is, in fact, an operational naval boat equipped with specialized security gadgets suitable for high-profile operational inspections. It is referred to as a presidential yacht merely due to its high-level security features.
  1. The naval boat was ordered by the navy under the previous administration. President Tinubu has consistently emphasized that the government is a continuum, as it inherits both assets and liabilities from past administrations.
  1. The payment request for the boat was part of the committed obligations submitted by the Office of the Chief of Naval Staff to the Ministry of Defence. The total value of the submitted requests exceeded N200 billion, of which N62 billion was approved by the President.
  1. President Tinubu is prioritizing the security of our country and territorial waters. Under his leadership, the Federal Government is investing additional resources to enhance greater economic output from our oil and gas, marine, and blue economy sectors.
