Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has made a passionate appeal to the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons, requesting additional relief support for victims affected by banditry and disaster in the state.

In a statement released by the spokesperson to the governor, Sulaiman Bala Idris, it was stated that the governor’s request was driven by the commission’s crucial role in providing assistance to those affected by calamities.

During a courtesy visit to Tijjani Aliyu Ahmed, the Federal Commissioner of the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons, Governor Lawal highlighted the purpose of his visit, which is to explore additional avenues to aid the people affected by banditry in Zamfara State.

“Governor Lawal passionately appealed to the Commission to give priority to Zamfara State in light of the ongoing insecurity, stressing the urgent need for humanitarian assistance,” the statement read.

The governor further requested the Honorable Commissioner to extend the refugee resettlement cities established in Gusau to other zones within the state, recognizing the dire need for such interventions.

In light of limited resources, Governor Lawal emphasized the significance of partnerships and collaborations in alleviating the suffering of over 2,000 refugees in Zamfara State.

In response to the governor’s appeal, the Commissioner of the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons, Ahmed, assured continued support to Persons of Concern in Zamfara and other states grappling with insecurity.

Commending Governor Lawal for being the first Executive Governor to visit the Commission since assuming office, the Federal Commissioner expressed gratitude and admiration for the governor’s dedication to the well-being of his people.

“I sincerely thank you. This visit demonstrates your high level of commitment and it is an honor that you have taken the time to meet with us,” the Commissioner said. “We have heard your request for additional support, and I want to assure you that the Commission will ensure that you do not leave empty-handed.”
