Kano State Government Claims Ganduje Left Over N500bn Debt

The Kano State Government has recently revealed that the immediate past governor of the state, Abdullahi Ganduje, left office burdened with a debt of over N500 billion. This startling revelation was made by the Deputy Governor of Kano State, Abdussalam Gwarzo, during the North-West Zonal meeting of New Nigeria People’s Party.

According to Gwarzo, the ongoing verification process suggests that the debt inherited by the current administration may exceed N500 billion. This substantial debt has greatly hindered the smooth transition and progress of the New Nigeria People’s Party government in the state.

“We came into office inheriting a government that left us with nothing but debt,” remarked Gwarzo. He further explained, “Initially, it was N300 billion, but now it is approaching N500 billion, and we are still counting. Once we complete the assessment, we will inform Nigerians, especially our fellow Kano residents, about the total debt left behind.”

Gwarzo also emphasized the commendable efforts of the current administration in managing the available resources prudently. One notable achievement highlighted was the full payment of salaries to state workers, resolving outstanding issues that had plagued the previous administration.

“Governor Yusuf ensured full payment of salaries to state workers and resolved outstanding issues,” stated Gwarzo. “Furthermore, due to Governor Kabir Yusuf’s compassion, we have allocated N6 billion for retirement gratuities and death benefits. The screening process is already underway, and by the end of this month, many people will receive the benefits they deserve. Our goal is to clear all outstanding gratuities within the next two years.”

The Kano State Government remains committed to addressing the staggering debt left behind by the previous administration and managing the state’s resources responsibly for the benefit of the people.
