The Lagos State Government, under the leadership of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has announced the implementation of a traffic diversion plan between Costain and Alaka descent. This temporary measure is necessary in order to carry out emergency repairs on certain sections of the iconic Eko Bridge.

The decision to undertake these repairs stems from the need to prevent further vandalism and theft of key components, including the expansion joint. The repair process will involve the replacement of missing parts and the recasting of the transition concrete around the expansion joint.

In a statement signed by the Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, it was revealed that the affected section of the Eko Bridge will be closed to traffic from 8 am on Saturday, November 4. The bridge is expected to reopen at 4 am on Monday, November 6, 2023. Motorists who regularly commute through this area are advised to utilize the Costain Ramp as an alternative route, connecting to Alaka through the Costain Roundabout during this period.

The Lagos State Government is fully committed to minimizing the inconvenience caused by this temporary traffic diversion. To ensure a smooth flow of traffic and maintain public safety, sufficient traffic and security personnel will be deployed to the construction zones and alternative routes. Motorists are urged to cooperate with the officials on duty and adhere to all traffic regulations during this period.

The repair works on the Eko Bridge have been carefully planned to ensure that they are completed within the designated timeframe. The Lagos State Government assures residents and commuters that every effort will be made to ensure the reopening of the bridge as scheduled.

Lagosians are known for their resilience and adaptability in the face of challenges. It is expected that they will approach this temporary inconvenience with patience and understanding, as we all work towards the goal of sustaining and improving our transportation infrastructure.

The Eko Bridge, a symbol of Lagos and a vital transportation artery, has played a pivotal role in connecting various parts of the city and facilitating economic activities. The necessary repairs are essential to maintain its structural integrity and ensure the safety of all road users.

We urge motorists to plan their journeys in advance and explore alternative routes to minimize delays. Together, we can navigate through this temporary inconvenience and emerge with a stronger and more resilient transportation network.
