A total of 171 students from various corps and services were inaugurated into the Junior Leadership and Staff Officers Course (JLSOC) at the Nigerian Army College of Logistics and Management (NACOLM) on 23rd February. The ceremony took place at the esteemed Tukur Yusuf Buratai Hall, located at the permanent site of NACOLM in Ojo, Lagos.
Brigadier General Wisdom Etuk, the Commandant of NACOLM, officially launched the course, which commenced with an inaugural lecture delivered by Major General Hassan Tafida. Major General Tafida, who is a member of the College Board of Governors as well as the Corps Commander Nigerian Army Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, presented an intriguing lecture titled, ‘The making of an effective leader and staff officer for joint operating environment’.

During the ceremony, the Commandant emphasized the importance of tactical level officers and the significant contributions that the JLSOC makes in their development. He also shared field observations on staff training of tactical level officers. Brigadier General Etuk highlighted that the college, initially established in December 2002 to train logisticians, has expanded its courses to include leadership and staff officer programs. As a result, the college now aims to produce efficient logisticians and staff-trained officers who possess the necessary leadership skills to excel in joint and combined operations at various levels.
The JLSOC, a comprehensive course with a duration of approximately 23 weeks, has a curriculum designed to instill key leadership and management concepts. Time management is also emphasized, with the Commandant underscoring the importance of utilizing time effectively. He urged the students to efficiently plan, manage, and allocate their time to maximize productivity.
Brigadier General Etuk stressed the significance of fostering harmonious relationships among the students and encouraged intellectual dialogue and interactions. He also issued a caution against plagiarism, emphasizing the importance of producing original work and properly acknowledging any sources consulted to maintain academic integrity.
The Commandant expressed gratitude to Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja (NAM), the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), for his unwavering support to the college. He also congratulated the students on being selected to attend the course, acknowledging their achievements and potential.
