Customs Onne Port Intercepts Ammunition, Hands Over Two Suspects to Police

The Nigeria Customs Service Port Harcourt Court Area 11 Command has made a remarkable achievement by intercepting ammunition and apprehending two suspects. The command’s comptroller, Baba Imam, announced this during a press conference at the command’s corporate office in Onne, Rivers state.

The interception and subsequent handover of the suspects and exhibits to the Nigeria police signifies a significant milestone in the fight against illegal weapons. The seized items include a pistol and 9mm ammunition, which pose a potential threat to the safety and security of our nation.

Comptroller Baba Imam attributed this achievement to the dedication and professionalism of the officers who underwent rigorous training and retraining to enhance their efficiency. The provision of adequate logistics and incentives also contributed to their success in combating illegal activities within the port.

In addition to the ammunition seizure, officers of the area command confiscated nine containers with a duty paid value of over N1.16 billion. These containers contained various contraband goods, such as 724 bales of used clothing, 1,805 pieces of used tyres, 4 vehicles used to conceal 76.9kg of special cannabis (marijuana), and 2,070 cartons of Tomato paste, among others. These seizures demonstrate the commitment of the Nigeria Customs Service to upholding import prohibition laws and ensuring the safety and wellbeing of our citizens.

Furthermore, the Nigeria Customs Service Port Harcourt Court Area 11 Command has achieved remarkable success in revenue generation. From January to October, the command generated a total of N246 billion, surpassing the revenue target set for this fiscal year by over N44 billion. In the month of October alone, the command realized more than N38 billion, exceeding its monthly revenue target of N28 billion. This outstanding performance reflects the efficiency and effectiveness of the command in facilitating trade while maintaining compliance with relevant regulations.

Deputy Commissioner of Police, Ashu Ota, who is in charge of operations at the Eastern ports, commended the Nigeria Customs Service for their collaboration in tackling illicit activities. He emphasized the importance of public participation in enhancing effective policing and reducing crime. The police will continue with further investigation upon taking over the suspects and exhibits.

This successful interception and collaboration between the Nigeria Customs Service and the police highlight the continuous efforts being made to safeguard our borders, protect our citizens, and promote a secure and prosperous Nigeria.
