Enenurhie and Enhwe communities are calling on the Delta State government to take immediate action and repair the collapsed Enenurhie-Enhwe bridge. This vital bridge serves as a crucial link between the area and Ughelli, Bayelsa, and Port-Harcourt in Rivers State.
During a visit to the scene, the Media Talk Africa observed the deplorable state of the road, rendering it impassable for vehicles and pedestrians alike.
Peter Manson, the President-General of Enenurhie Community, emphasized that the magnitude of the damage exceeds the capabilities of the community alone. He appeals to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to extend a helping hand and initiate the urgently needed repairs.
Keno Omofezi, a motorist on his way from Igbide to Oleh, expressed his anguish at the distressing condition of the bridge. He stated, “It is truly painful to contemplate the predicament we now find ourselves in. As you can see, the damage is extensive, colossal, and abominable. We humbly implore our governor to come to our rescue and extricate us from this dire situation.”
Omofezi emphasized the criticality of the bridge as it connects numerous Isoko communities to the well-traveled East-West Road. He added, “We simply cannot afford to be without it.”
Anthony Okpiyalele, another passerby who spoke to Media Talk Africa, proposed a two-fold solution. He suggested that the state government should prioritize the immediate repair of the damaged bridge. Simultaneously, they should devise a long-term plan for the construction of a new, more resilient bridge, ensuring a lasting solution to this predicament.
