Manchester United icon, Rio Ferdinand, has urged winger Antony to elevate his performance for the club.
Ferdinand expressed his sympathy for the Manchester United fans who jeered Antony during their hard-fought 1-0 victory over Fulham in the Premier League on Saturday.
In the dying moments of the game, Bruno Fernandes scored a crucial goal to secure all three points for Erik ten Hag’s side.
However, prior to being substituted just after the hour mark, Antony struggled to make an impact on the flank.
As he walked off the field, the Brazilian faced criticism from his own supporters.
So far this season, Antony has failed to find the back of the net or provide any assists for the Red Devils.
“You could sense the frustrations, not to mention hear them,” commented Ferdinand during an interview on TNT Sports, addressing the issue with Antony’s performance.
“Listen, he has played 11 games this season without scoring a single goal or registering an assist. For an attacking player, that is simply unacceptable. The truth is, he needs to greatly improve his game.”
