The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has achieved a major success in its continuous fight against drug trafficking in Lagos. In just three days, the agency was able to intercept a staggering amount of drugs with a street value of N13 billion. These seizures were made in three significant busts, targeting drug cartels operating in various parts of the city.
The first bust took place at House 8/10 Hon. Wahuha Avenue, Divine Estate, Ago Palace Way area of Amuwo Odofin on October 29th. During this operation, the NDLEA seized 490,000 pills of tramadol and 81,519 bottles of codeine syrup. This initial success set the stage for the subsequent operations.
On October 31st, the NDLEA struck again, this time targeting a secret warehouse operated by a prominent trader, Nwaoha Anayo, in Idumota, Lagos. The agency confiscated a staggering 12.8 million pills of tramadol during this raid. It is worth noting that Mr. Anayo himself resides in the Aguda area of Surulere, Lagos.
In the third and most recent operation, the NDLEA apprehended six members of a drug smuggling syndicate who were using their official cover to facilitate the illicit transportation of drugs through the Skyway Aviation Handling Company (SAHCO) warehouse at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport. This operation, which lasted for weeks, resulted in the seizure of 1.2 million pills of tramadol.
The NDLEA spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, revealed that the agency is currently holding the six suspects in custody. Their names are Oladele Sanya-Olu, Lawal Temitope, Sanamo Daniel, Udeh Monday, Musa Mutalib, and Evans Icibor. However, there are also three other suspects, Sarki Salami, Abdullahi Aliyu (aka Aboki), and Monday Anwal, who are currently on the run. These individuals have been declared wanted by the NDLEA.
The successful operations carried out by the NDLEA are commendable and demonstrate the agency’s commitment to eradicating drug trafficking in the country. Such efforts are crucial in curbing the menace of drug abuse and its devastating consequences on individuals and society as a whole.
