Coalition Urges Inspector-General of Police to Release Investigation Report on Kogi Murder Case

A coalition of civil society groups has called on Inspector-General of Police, Mr Kayode Egbetokun, to make public the police investigation report into the alleged murder of Victor Obafaite and Jimoh Asimi.

The incident, which occurred after the 2007 House of Representatives election in Kabba/Bunu LGA, led to the loss of lives of Obafaite and Asimi.

In a statement released on Monday, convener Mr Wisdom Chinedu emphasized the urgency of action from the Inspector General of Police.

Chinedu urged the IG to ensure that the relevant authorities involved in the case disclose their investigation reports.

Expressing doubts about the trustworthiness of the previous committee, Chinedu stressed the need to uncover the circumstances surrounding the deaths of the individuals in question.

Furthermore, Chinedu highlighted the importance of justice and called for the prompt arrest and prosecution of the alleged mastermind of the attack on charges of murder.

Chinedu also demanded that all individuals directly or indirectly responsible for the violent incident in 2007 face legal consequences.

Highlighting the availability of witnesses who can testify against the perpetrators, Chinedu underscored the significance of taking immediate action.

Addressing the ongoing governorship election campaign, Chinedu drew attention to the alarming reports of violent threats and the alleged engagement of known cultists to disrupt the election.

Emphasizing the need to uphold the democratic progress made since 1999, he called for the protection of citizens’ rights to a peaceful electoral process.
