In a surprising turn of events, former Enugu-North Senator, Chukwuka Utazi, announced his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Utazi revealed that he made this decision because the once-cherished ideals that drew him to the party have fallen into obscurity.

Representing the district from 2015 to 2023, Utazi formally submitted his resignation letter to the Chairman of PDP in Nkpologu Ward of Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area. Chief Robert Ezeagu received the letter on Sunday, marking the senator’s departure from the party.

In his resignation letter, Utazi stated, “It is with deep reservation that I resign my membership of the People’s Democratic Party, a party in which I had the privilege of being a foundation member since its inception in 1998.”

He continued, “The reason for my departure stems from the fact that the ideals that initially attracted me to the party have sadly faded away. This leaves me with no other choice but to seek another political platform that will grant me the opportunity to fully participate and contribute to the development of our great nation.”

Concluding his letter, Utazi expressed his best wishes to his former colleagues, acknowledging their resilience in navigating the challenging circumstances of the present. He said, “I wish you all well as you continue to strive for a better life under the prevailing circumstances. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation thus far.”

The departure of a prominent figure like Senator Utazi from the PDP undoubtedly raises questions about the party’s direction and ability to retain its loyal members. Utazi’s decision to leave highlights the importance of upholding and revitalizing the ideals that initially drew individuals to political parties.

As the nation gears up for the upcoming elections, it serves as a reminder for politicians and party leaders to continually reflect on their core principles and ensure they remain committed to their supporters.
