Ex-SGF Babachir Lawal Accuses Tinubu of Appointing CBN Gov Yemi Cardoso with ‘Patch-Patch CV’

Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Babachir Lawal, has made startling allegations against President Bola Tinubu, claiming that he appointed the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Yemi Cardoso, based on a patched-up curriculum vitae.

In a recent appearance on Arise TV, Lawal accused Tinubu of appointing Cardoso due to their past association in Lagos State, where Tinubu was the governor and Cardoso served as the Commissioner of Planning. Lawal emphasized the disparity in size between Lagos State and the entire country, questioning Cardoso’s suitability for such a crucial role.

Expressing his disbelief, Lawal reiterated that Cardoso lacked the qualifications required for the position of CBN governor, stating, “As to the Central Bank Governor, in my response to the APC (All Progressives Congress) when they decided to take me on, I mentioned that the President had a Central Bank Governor with a ‘patch-patch’ CV.”

Lawal further elaborated, “I termed it a ‘patch-patch’ CV because his experience was limited to being the commissioner of planning in Lagos State, which is only one of the 36 states in the country. While it is indeed a significant economy, it does not necessarily equate to the extensive experience needed for the role of the Central Bank governor.”

Highlighting Cardoso’s professional background, Lawal pointed out, “They also claimed that he was a chairman of a bank with only 13 branches, which, in my view, does not provide him with sufficient exposure. The mentioned branches are predominantly located around Lagos, with only two in Lagos, and others in Warri, Benin City, and surrounding areas.”
