The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has issued a stern warning to the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) against disrupting flight operations at the airports.
Speaking at the Ministerial retreat for Minister, Permanent Secretary, Directors, and Head of Agencies of the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development on Thursday in Effurun, Delta, Mr. Keyamo emphasized that as the political head of the aviation industry in Nigeria, he will not tolerate any actions by the Labour leaders to obstruct access roads to the Airport.
The warning comes after labor leaders blocked access roads to the Abuja Airport on Thursday morning in protest over the alleged maltreatment of the President of NLC, Joe Ajaero.
Keyamo pleaded with the labor leaders, urging them to refrain from targeting the Aviation industry in addressing their grievances. He emphasized the global significance of the Aviation industry and cautioned against allowing party politics to dismantle the labor movement. He made it clear that he would not hesitate to fight back if the industry is targeted.
The Minister stressed the industry’s pivotal role in driving sustainable growth and development across sectors of the Nigerian economy.
Keyamo outlined a five-point agenda for the rapid transformation of the sector aligned with the eight priority areas of President Mr. Tinubu. The agenda includes ensuring strict compliance with the nation’s laws and regulations, support for the growth and sustenance of local airline business, human capacity development, and revenue generation optimization.
He highlighted the objective of the retreat, which focuses on performing a “SWOT” Analysis of the industry to provide practical solutions for achieving desired results. Keyamo emphasized the necessity for proactive and circumspect deliberations to drive the private sector’s growth and development in the Aviation sector and attract foreign direct investment. He also emphasized the responsibility of policy makers to ensure that policies, programs, and projects align with ICAO standards.
Mr. President is passionate about transforming the nation, and Keyamo shares this passion, particularly in the transformation of the Aviation sector. He urged the departments and agencies to equally share this passion and work towards the sector’s advancement for the nation’s benefit.
The warnings and objectives set by Festus Keyamo have sparked a critical discussion on the intersection of labor and politics within the Aviation industry and its implications for Nigeria’s economic development.
