Manchester United’s manager, Erik ten Hag, has hinted that Mason Mount’s inability to secure a starting position is due to the impressive form of other players in the team.
Ten Hag also noted that Mount’s injury setback in September has hindered his seamless integration into the Man United squad.
Since his return from injury, Mount has predominantly appeared as a substitute player.
Despite making 11 appearances for his new club, the English star is yet to find the net, delivering a series of unsatisfactory performances.
Following a muscle injury that sidelined him for five games, Mount has only been featured in the starting lineup twice in the league, raising questions about his role in the team.
Responding to inquiries regarding Mount’s lack of starts, Ten Hag addressed the issue during a press conference before their upcoming Premier League encounter with Luton Town this weekend, stating: “He had some starts.”
“Just last week against Newcastle, but there are always contributing factors, such as the injury [at the beginning of the season] and the commendable performances of other players, thus necessitating patience for his opportunity to play,” Ten Hag explained.
He further elaborated, saying, “However, he commenced the season and subsequently succumbed to injury, which constitutes the most inopportune period for a new player to be sidelined, disrupting the integration process, and presenting a setback for all of us. Now, we must endeavor to reintegrate him into the team.”
