Ibikunle Amosun Honours Dying Wish of Loyal Supporter

Former Governor Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun State has fulfilled the dying wish of his loyal supporter, 97-year-old Mrs Taiwo Kosenatu Durojaiye, popularly known as Iya Londo, by laying her to rest at Itoko. The funeral service took place at the St Emmanuel Anglican Church, Keesi, Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.

Amosun paid tribute to the deceased during the service, reminiscing about their first encounter in 2001 when he ventured into partisan politics. He highlighted Mrs Durojaiye’s unwavering support throughout his political journey, describing her as a pillar of strength.

The former governor revealed that Mrs Durojaiye had persistently expressed her desire for him to oversee her burial after her passing. He recounted her words, “Anytime I die, my corpse is yours. Make sure you bury me,” emphasizing her unwavering loyalty over the years.

Recalling their recent conversations, Amosun shared, “Like three months ago, she still told me that the time was nearer. She said, ‘Please bury me; take charge of the funeral arrangements; you just must be there. My children should call you. Take my body to church and do everything.’ And that is why we are all here today.”

Reflecting on Mrs Durojaiye’s character, Amosun praised her allegiance, stating, “Mama was not a transactional politician. I have known her since 2001 when I first joined politics. Mama Londo was a very steadfast woman. I am only repaying her loyalty and steadfastness.”

During his sermon, the vicar, Oluyinka Oke, reminded the congregation of the inevitability of death, urging them to reorient themselves towards God.
