The Hama Bachama of Adamawa State, Dr. Daniel Shaga, has expressed his appreciation for the proactive measures taken by the State Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, in addressing the security challenges prevalent in the state. Dr. Shaga, who also serves as the chairman of the Bachama Traditional Council, emphasized the pivotal role of security in various aspects of development, including agriculture, infrastructure, education, tourism, and overall socio-economic progress in Nigeria.

Speaking from his Palace in Numan, Adamawa State, Northeast Nigeria, Dr. Shaga conveyed his observations to a delegation of 38 participants from Course 32 of the National Defense College, NDC, who were conducting a study tour in the state.

He highlighted the historical security issues faced by the state, particularly in the Southern zone and the Numan federation, where his domain is located. Dr. Shaga cited challenges such as conflicts between herders and farmers, incursions by external aggressors, and cases of abduction for ransom, all of which have posed significant threats to the peace and stability of the region.

The traditional ruler commended Governor Fintiri’s dedication in addressing these security concerns, resulting in a noticeable decrease in the prevalence of insecurity. He stressed that the Southern zone is currently experiencing a more peaceful atmosphere, with communities no longer grappling with the previous levels of discord and unrest.

Dr. Shaga emphasized the need for stakeholders to sustain the current relative peace by engaging in meaningful discussions on modernizing cattle grazing practices and adopting contemporary agricultural methods. He underscored the potential benefits of these initiatives in promoting higher agricultural yields, reducing conflicts, and creating a more secure environment.

Addressing the educational sector, the monarch urged the government to establish additional higher learning institutions in the Southern Senatorial District, particularly focusing on marginalized communities within the Numan Federation.

In response, the leader of the visiting delegation, Commodore Sunday Yahaya, stressed the significance of leveraging the experiences of traditional rulers in enhancing national and international security efforts. He acknowledged the role of traditional leaders in fostering regional and national security, highlighting the importance of knowledge-sharing between the Defence College and traditional institutions.

Commodore Yahaya commended Dr. Daniel Shaga for his unwavering advocacy for security and peace, noting the monarch’s influence in maintaining order within his domain, despite the prevailing security challenges. He also shared that the NDC, established in 1992, has played a critical role in training over 2,750 security personnel at strategic levels, aimed at fortifying national and sub-regional security for sustained peace and development.

Furthermore, Commodore Yahaya described the study tour as an essential component of the course, designed to familiarize participants with the socio-political landscape of various states in the country. He added that the current course participants are divided into six teams, each visiting different states simultaneously.

As a token of appreciation and in accordance with tradition, the visiting team presented a gift to Dr. Daniel Shaga, symbolizing their gratitude for his commitment to fostering peace and progress in Nigeria.
