Ohanaeze Youths Call on Zamfara Governor to Address Governance and Insecurity Challenges

The youth wing of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, a leading Igbo socio-cultural organization, has raised concerns about the state of affairs in Zamfara State, accusing Governor Dauda Lawal of neglecting governance and security issues.

The group’s statement comes amid a public spat between Governor Lawal and his predecessor, who currently serves as the Defence Minister, Bello Mohammed Matawalle.

In a press release issued on Saturday by the National President of Ohanaeze Youth Council Worldwide, Mazi Okwu Nnabuike, he criticized the governor for prioritizing trivial matters over the pressing needs of the state.

Okwu pointed out that Governor Lawal, despite making ambitious promises during the 2023 elections, has failed to fulfill the expectations of the people of Zamfara.

“Instead of focusing on effective governance, all he does is engage in verbal attacks against his predecessor as if that was his mandate,” Okwu remarked.

“The deteriorating security situation in Zamfara is alarming, and it is evident that there is a lack of concrete efforts to address this menace.

“Furthermore, there has been a notable absence of substantial development projects nearly six months into his administration. This is a disservice to the people of Zamfara and reflects a lack of vision for governance,” he added.

“We urge him to step down if he is unable to provide competent leadership and drive development in Zamfara State.

“Instead of distracting the Defence Minister, who has made significant strides in curbing attacks and safeguarding government assets, the governor should allow him to focus on national duties.

“If he persists in this course of action, we will not hesitate to expose his shortcomings to the public,” the group cautioned.

The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide’s statement serves as a candid call for Governor Lawal to address the pressing issues of governance and security in Zamfara State, resonating with the growing concerns of the Nigerian populace.
