EFCC Cracks Down on Vote Buying, Seizes N11m in Bayelsa, Imo, Kogi States

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has made a significant breakthrough in its efforts to curb vote buying, with the arrest of 14 individuals suspected of engaging in the illegal practice. The arrests occurred in Otueke and Adawari playgrounds in Bayelsa State, as well as at various polling units in Imo and Kogi states.

Dele Oyewale, the EFCC’s Head of Media and Publicity, revealed that a total sum of N11,040,000 was seized during the operations. This amount includes N9,310,00 intercepted from suspected vote buyers and sellers in Bayelsa, and N1,730,000 intercepted from electoral fraud suspects across Imo State. Additionally, two vehicles belonging to the suspects were also intercepted.

Oyewale stated, “They will be charged in court as soon as investigations are concluded.”
