Former federal lawmaker, Senator Shehu Sani, has highlighted a critical issue plaguing Nigerian politics – the systemic influence of money in leadership selection. In a compelling post on his official social media handle, he expressed his concern about the impact of vote buying on the electoral process.

Senator Shehu Sani’s powerful statement comes in the wake of the recent gubernatorial elections in Imo, Kogi and Bayelsa States, which were tainted by reports of vote buying. The troubling development led to the arrest of several politicians who were apprehended with substantial sums of money, suspected to be earmarked for influencing the electoral outcome.

Highlighting the implications of this corrupt practice, Shehu Sani underscored that as long as Nigeria’s democratic system continues to tolerate and promote vote buying, the recruitment of leaders will remain in the hands of the highest bidders. Describing the current state of affairs, he remarked, “Our leadership recruitment and electoral system will continue to be for the highest bidder.”
