After a lingering period of uncertainty, the Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools (ASUSS), Taraba State branch, has made the decision to resume academic activities in secondary schools across the state. This development comes in the aftermath of the tragic killing of one of its members, Bassey Sardauna, which had led to the suspension of academic activities in the state. The union officially declared this decision at a press conference held on Sunday.

Dr. Ishaku Kazon, the Secretary General of the union, fervently urged all members to swiftly return to their respective schools to recommence academic activities as from tomorrow, Monday. The decision to reopen the schools was reached after extensive and constructive discussions with state government bodies.

Dr. Kazon emphasised, “After several hours of meeting with the agencies of the state government, the union has unanimously agreed to reopen the secondary schools across the state. Over the weekend, we have had fruitful deliberations with the agencies of government. The House committee on education, and the Ministry of education. They gave us a round off of the activities of the government and how proactive the government is, and the steps taken so far.”

In a show of support and solidarity, the state government, through the Ministry of Education, not only extended a heartfelt letter of condolence to the union but also made the commendable decision to establish a committee dedicated to probing the unfortunate incident and bringing those responsible for the teacher’s killing to justice.
