APC’s Usman Ododo Emerges Winner of Kogi Governorship Election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially announced Usman Ododo, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), as the winner of the keenly contested governorship election in Kogi State. The declaration was made by the state’s returning officer, Prof Johnson Urama, who also serves as the deputy vice-chancellor (Academics) of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. The announcement came at 10:23 pm on Sunday.

According to the official results declared by Mr. Urama, Usman Ododo, fulfilled all legal requirements and secured a total of 446,237 votes. In contrast, Murtala Ajaka, the candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), garnered 259,052 votes, placing him in second position. Notably, Dino Melaye, the flagbearer of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), clinched the third spot with 46,362 votes.

Furthermore, in a bid to ensure the integrity of the electoral process, INEC had initially scheduled a supplementary election to take place on Saturday, November 18. This was planned specifically for 59 polling units in the Ogori/Magongo Local Government Area of Kogi State. The decision to hold these supplementary elections was disclosed by INEC spokesman, Mohammed Haruna, in a statement released on Sunday evening.

The successful conduct and conclusion of the governorship election in Kogi State mark a significant milestone in the democratic journey of the state. With Usman Ododo’s emergence as the governor-elect, it is expected that the state will experience a new phase of governance and development under his leadership.
