Gunmen Kidnap UNICAL Director in Calabar Staff Quarters

Gunmen abducted Prof. Patrick Egaga, the Director of Servicom at the University of Calabar, from the staff quarters on Sunday night. Prof. Egaga, also a professor in the Department of Special Education, was forcefully taken from his residence. The Police Command in Cross River has confirmed the abduction and assured that efforts are underway to secure his safe release.

SP Irene Ugbo, the command’s spokesperson, confirmed the incident and stated, “Although the family did not immediately report the incident, we are actively working towards securing his release.” Furthermore, Effiong Eyo, the university’s spokesperson, acknowledged that the university became aware of the abduction on Monday morning.

According to reports, the gunmen abducted Prof. Egaga through the river that borders the university’s staff quarters, using the same river that links Calabar to Akpabuyo Local Government Area of the state. The specifics of the incident are still under investigation.
