In response to the directive from the branch leadership of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), workers at local government councils in Delta State have heeded the call to stay away from their duty posts, significantly impacting daily operations.

Local government workers in Oshimili South, Asaba, and Warri South complied with the instruction, leading to the closure of offices and health centers within the respective councils.

A succinct message issued by the NULGE branch leadership stated: “NULGE WEE! Please Note that the strike is on as directed by the leadership of NLC and TUC. Please comply to avoid further sanction.”

The state witnessed a notable level of compliance with the strike, as evidenced by the cancellation of a scheduled seminar on Tuesday, November 14, and Wednesday, November 15, by the organizers due to the unavailability of essential personnel.

The two-day seminar/workshop, which was intended for O/C Salary & Assistant, Cashier & Assistant, Internal Auditor, and Checkers serving in local government councils across Delta North Senatorial District, had to be called off. The Delta State Local Government Service Commission was duly notified of the development.

Additionally, the main entrance of Delta Ports in Warri was blockaded on Tuesday morning by trade union officials to enforce compliance with the NLC/TUC strike.

Consequently, students and pupils attending public primary and secondary schools in Asaba and Warri were dismissed for the day due to the strike’s impact on essential services.

However, it was observed that certain privately owned primary and secondary schools in Asaba and Warri chose not to adhere to the strike order, opting to continue their operations as usual, amidst the prevailing industrial action.
