The House of Representatives has adjourned plenary in response to the strike declared by Organized Labour. This decision followed the consideration and adoption of “Matters of Urgent Public Importance,” as revealed by Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu.

During the discussion, Kalu, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) representing Bende Federal Constituency in Abia State, urged the National Assembly leadership to collaborate with organized labour in seeking a compromise beneficial to the entire country.

Lawmakers present at the plenary expressed distress over the widespread hardship faced by Nigerians since the commencement of the industrial action. Emphasizing the urgency of a conclusive resolution to the dispute, they stressed the need for decisive actions.

Prior to the adjournment, Speaker Tajudeen Abbas announced that the House leadership would immediately meet with its Senate counterpart. He assured Nigerians that the matter would be treated with utmost urgency and seriousness.

As a result, the House adjourned until Thursday, with all items on the Order Paper, including legislation and motions, placed on hold.
