A wave of grief has swept through the Nigerian entertainment industry following the untimely demise of Oladipupo Oladimeji, popularly known as Oladips.
The heartbreaking news of Oladips’ passing was announced by his management via an emotional statement on his Instagram page. According to the statement, Oladips had been grappling with internal struggles for the past two years before his unfortunate demise on Tuesday night.
Idowest, a fellow musician, expressed his sorrow in a heartfelt video message on Instagram, emphasizing the prevalence of hidden battles with depression within the industry. He lamented, “We are still mourning Mohbad, and now Oladips has joined him. What killed the boy? Depression.”
Viktoh, a singer, condemned the dismissive attitudes towards Oladips’ health struggles on social media, urging people to check up on and support one another. In a poignant video shared on his Instagram, he highlighted the need for genuine concern and empathy, stating, “You can’t even retire from being a man for a few seconds to speak about the problems you’re going through without people thinking you’re chasing clout or weak.”
The tragic loss also resonated deeply with Nnamdi Nwabasili, known as N6, who underscored the societal reluctance to speak out about personal challenges. He pointed out the hypocrisy of accusing Oladips of seeking attention while he was dealing with his health issues.
Rapper Blaqbonez expressed his profound sorrow, lamenting the cruel twist of fate that robbed Oladips of witnessing the success of his upcoming album. Similarly, veteran singer Jaywon and rapper Chinko Ekun poured out their hearts, conveying their disbelief and sorrow at Oladips’ passing through heartfelt messages on social media.
The pain of Oladips’ departure was also evident in the tribute shared by Odumodublvck, who posted a clip of himself honoring the late rapper in one of his songs with a simple yet poignant caption in capital letters.
Oladips left behind a legacy at the young age of 28. As the industry mourns this devastating loss, his management is expected to announce funeral arrangements in due course.
