Court of Appeal Upholds Governor Sanwo-Olu’s Re-election Victory

The Court of Appeal sitting in Lagos has upheld the victory of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and his deputy, Dr Obafemi Hamzat, dismissing an appeal by the PDP and its Governorship Candidate for Lagos State, Abdulazeez Adediran. This decision reaffirms the earlier ruling of the Lagos State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal on September 25, which affirmed the re-election of Governor Sanwo-Olu and his deputy in the March 18 governorship poll.

The court stated that the appellants failed to provide sufficient evidence to support their allegations of forgery and non-qualification against Mr Sanwo-Olu and his deputy. “Though they were all pre-election matters, the appellants, PDP and its candidate, Adeniran, still failed to prove them,” the court declared. “The appellants came empty-handed and left empty-handed. Their petition lacked merit and is dismissed.”

Meanwhile, the court was also delivering judgment in a similar appeal by the Labour Party and its candidate for the election, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, at the time of this report.
